Crete Forensic Pathologist Released Under Conditions After Marathon Testimony

A forensic pathologist from Chania, Crete, was released in the early hours of Tuesday under restrictive conditions, including a 20,000 euro bail and a travel ban, following a testimony that lasted over six hours. The pathologist is accused of submitting false forensic reports and accepting bribes.

The pathologist, who had requested a postponement to prepare his defense, was brought back to the Chania courts on Monday evening. Upon the announcement of the decision, relatives and friends gathered outside the courthouse erupted in applause. He faces four charges, all of which he vehemently denies. His defense attorneys stated that their client was released because no sufficient evidence of guilt emerged.

Attorneys also clarified that these cases are unrelated to the Manoudakis case. Lawyer Ioulita Tzougaraki described the process as "marathon-like" and "difficult," emphasizing her client's categorical denial of all charges. She asserted this is the second time the Chania forensic pathologist has been "unjustly slandered and disgraced," recalling a previous instance where he was falsely reported to have been suspended.

Also accused in the same case was a toxicologist from Chania, who was similarly released under restrictive conditions.
