Crimes by migrants in Russia drop 40% in first half of 2026

Russia has seen a significant reduction in crimes committed by migrants, with a 40% decrease reported in the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year. Data from the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs indicates that foreign citizens and stateless persons were involved in fewer criminal activities during this period.

According to the statistics, migrants committed a total of 14,449 crimes between January and June 2026. Of these, 11,861 offenses were committed by citizens from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The number of crimes attributed to migrants from CIS countries specifically dropped by 41.2% compared to the same six-month period in 2025.

The report also noted a decrease in crimes committed against foreigners and stateless individuals. During the first half of 2026, 3,880 such crimes were recorded, representing an 18.2% reduction compared to the prior year. The data covers offenses committed by both Russian citizens against foreigners and crimes involving foreigners as victims.
