Croatia Braces for Intense Heatwave, Issues High-Temperature Warnings

Croatia is preparing for a significant heatwave, with meteorologists issuing warnings as temperatures are set to soar. The Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) has placed several coastal and inland regions under heat advisories.

Temperatures are expected to reach up to 35 degrees Celsius (95 Fahrenheit) in many parts of the country, particularly in inland Dalmatia. The DHMZ has issued yellow warnings for potentially dangerous conditions in the Rijeka, Split, and Dubrovnik regions. These warnings highlight risks to health, especially for the elderly, individuals with chronic illnesses, and young children.

Forecasters anticipate this heatwave to be the beginning of a sustained period of hot weather, driven by high-pressure systems and warm air currents. While mornings may remain relatively pleasant in mountainous areas, daytime temperatures will gradually climb. By the latter half of the week, some inland areas could experience very hot conditions.

Coastal areas will also see consistently sunny and hot days, with increasingly warm nights. The DHMZ has upgraded warnings for Thursday, with orange alerts, signifying dangerous weather, for the Rijeka and Split regions, and yellow alerts for Dubrovnik and much of the continental interior. The sea temperature remains pleasant for swimming, around 25 degrees Celsius.
