Serb nearly fell from Ryanair plane at 6,000 meters, seeks damages

Ljubiša Karović, a 61-year-old Serbian citizen, is pursuing legal action against Ryanair after a terrifying mid-flight incident where a window shattered near his seat, nearly expelling him from the aircraft at an altitude of approximately 6,000 meters.

I don't remember the incident at all because I immediately fainted. It all seemed like a nightmare. I can't sleep at night, and when I close my eyes, I hear the sound of an explosion and then chaos erupts in my head.

Karović was reportedly asleep when the window on flight FR1879 from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, suddenly broke on July 10. The sudden cabin depressurization partially pulled him out of the plane. He was saved by his wife, Svetlana, and other passengers who held onto his legs.

He sustained friction burns and bruises on his right arm and chest.

His wife claims the crew appeared more frightened than the passengers and that only fellow travelers provided assistance during the emergency. The pilot diverted the plane back to Thessaloniki, where medical teams were waiting.

Karović's lawyer, Vasilis Tsiaras, announced plans to seek "significant compensation," emphasizing the need to establish responsibility and the circumstances leading to the aircraft malfunction. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident, with a draft report expected in the coming weeks. Ryanair has stated that its aircraft are safe and that it has been in contact with the family.
