Croatia braces for new heatwave with dangerous temperatures expected

Croatia is set to experience a new heatwave beginning Friday, with meteorologists warning of dangerous conditions. The peak of the heat is expected by the end of the week, posing a significant health risk for many, especially those vulnerable to extreme temperatures.

While Thursday may see fewer warnings for most of the country, parts of the Adriatic coast, particularly Dalmatia, are under a yellow alert for high temperatures. By Friday, the danger escalates to an orange warning for all of Croatia, highlighting the substantial risk heat poses to public health. The situation in Dalmatia is expected to worsen on Saturday, though temperatures may begin to decrease elsewhere in the country.

Meteorologist Dorian Ribarić emphasized that the threat is not solely from high daytime temperatures but also from unpleasantly warm nights. Temperatures are predicted to exceed 36 degrees Celsius in many areas, potentially reaching 38 or even 39 degrees in Posavina. These high night temperatures are expected to continue through the weekend, particularly along the coast.

Health services are reiterating their warnings to the public, strongly advising the elderly, children, and individuals with chronic health conditions to stay indoors during the hottest hours of the day to mitigate the risks associated with the intense heat.
