Croatia braces for severe thunderstorms, hail; orange alert for Zagreb

Croatia is on high alert as severe thunderstorms are forecast to bring heavy rain, lightning, and hail, particularly to the Zagreb region. The State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ) has issued an orange warning for the capital, signaling dangerous weather conditions.

Residents in the affected areas can expect localized downpours, strong northwesterly winds, and potentially damaging hail. DHMZ advises preparedness for severe thunderstorms that could cause significant damage to property and trees. Flash floods, strong gusts of wind, and hail are also possible, leading to potential interruptions in outdoor activities and traffic.

Yellow warnings have been issued for the Osijek, Karlovac, Gospić, Knin, and Rijeka regions, indicating a heightened risk of severe weather. The forecast for the coming days suggests changeable weather across the country, with rain and thunderstorms expected, especially on Wednesday when heavier rainfall is possible. Temperatures are expected to decrease slightly.
