Croatia's citizenship review falls under its own authority, says HDZ BiH

The HDZ BiH party has issued a statement clarifying that the authority to grant and review Croatian citizenships rests solely with the institutions of the Republic of Croatia. This announcement addresses recent media reports circulating in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which alleged that Tomislav Martinović, the Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, had formally requested Croatian authorities to urgently review certain granted Croatian citizenships to citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The party stressed that the entire procedure for awarding and potentially revising citizenships is governed by Croatian laws and falls under the exclusive purview of Croatian state institutions. HDZ BiH explicitly stated that Martinović, in his capacity as the speaker of the highest legislative body in the Federation of BiH, does not possess official authority in this process.

This clarification serves to inform the public that any official initiatives concerning the review of Croatian citizenships must be handled by the competent bodies within Croatia. Representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina's government bodies, according to the statement, are not authorized to initiate such requests in this context.
