Croatian and German towns celebrate 60 years of enduring friendship

The towns of Donja Stubica in Croatia and Weiskirchen in Germany are celebrating six decades of an unbroken friendship, a bond that stands as one of the most enduring international town friendships in Europe. This unique connection, initiated in 1966, has woven nearly one hundred families into a tapestry of lasting relationships, with younger generations now continuing the traditions of their elders.

Despite initial language barriers, the friendship between the Zagorje region residents and those from the Rhine-Main area flourished. Heike Perić, president of the Association for Maintaining the Friendship of the Towns of Rodgau – Donja Stubica, highlighted the unwavering solidarity over the years. "Unity has remained unwavering since 1966; there have been ups and downs, but thanks to the great passion of both sides, our friendship has endured all this time," she explained.

The enduring nature of this relationship underscores the power of community and shared experience to transcend borders and time. It serves as a testament to how personal connections can foster deep, lasting international ties, passed down through generations.
