Croatian athletes win historic gold, silver, and two bronzes at Mediterranean Games

Croatian athletes achieved significant success on the seventh day of the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, securing their third gold medal of the competition.

Boksačica Sara Beram made history by winning the gold medal in the under-65kg category. She defeated Turkey's Sema Caliskan by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the final. Beram expressed her joy, highlighting that this is the first women's boxing gold medal for Croatia at a major international event since the country gained independence. She noted the demanding nature of her three fights, especially the final against Caliskan, who is an experienced boxer with European and world medals.

This is the first women's boxing gold medal at major international competitions since Croatia's independence, and I am very happy about it.

Prior to Beram's victory, Croatian wrestler Ivan Huklek and swimmer Toni Dragoja had also claimed gold medals. The day's achievements also included a silver medal for badminton player Aria Dinata. Croatian athletes further added to their medal tally with two bronze medals on the sixth day of competition. Filip Strikinac earned a bronze in the 100m surface swimming event, while Dora Bassi narrowly missed a medal in the 50m apnea, finishing in fourth place, just three-hundredths of a second behind the podium. Boxer Marko Perković lost his semifinal bout to France's Moindze with a 0-5 score.
