Croatian forward Franjo Ivanović nearing transfer to Spain or England

Croatian striker Franjo Ivanović is on the verge of a significant transfer, with Spanish club Real Betis and English Premier League newcomer Hull City reportedly vying for his signature. The 22-year-old forward currently plays for Portuguese club Benfica.

Hull City, managed by Sergej Jakirović, has allegedly made a substantial offer to Benfica, potentially securing Ivanović for a fee between 20 and 25 million euros. This figure is close to the 22.8 million euros Benfica paid for him last summer. Real Betis, also seeking a striker, has expressed interest, though Ivanović might prefer a move to a club with European ambitions over a newly promoted Premier League side.

A potential obstacle in the transfer is Benfica's preference for an immediate sale or a loan with a mandatory purchase clause, contrasting with Betis' initial proposal of a one-year loan with an option to buy. Betis is reportedly attempting to find a compromise, but negotiations are ongoing, and the asking price is considered high by the Spanish club.

Ivanović has faced stiff competition for a starting spot at Benfica, particularly with the recent arrival of Jhon Durán. Last season, he struggled to establish himself in the starting lineup under former coach Jose Mourinho, who favored a single-striker formation.
