Croatian striker Franjo Ivanović could leave Benfica for Turkish giant Galatasaray

Galatasaray, the reigning champions of Turkey, have set their sights on Croatian striker Franjo Ivanović, currently with Portuguese club Benfica. Reports from both Portuguese and Turkish media indicate that the Istanbul giants are preparing a formal offer for a one-year loan deal, which would include an option for a permanent transfer.

Ivanović has emerged as a key target for Galatasaray as they seek a new forward to complement their squad, particularly after the exit of Mauro Icardi. The 22-year-old Croatian international is seen as a viable option, especially after the club failed to secure the signing of Matthis Abline from Nantes. Ivanović's arrival at Benfica last summer was a notable event, costing the Portuguese club €22.8 million from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise, making it one of the largest transfers for a Croatian player at the time.

However, Ivanović's path to consistent first-team football at Benfica has been challenging. The arrival of Colombian international Jhon Durán this summer has further intensified competition in the forward line. This increased competition has led Benfica to reportedly consider allowing Ivanović to leave in search of greater playing opportunities. The club has a contract with Ivanović running until the summer of 2030.

Sources suggest that contacts between Galatasaray and Benfica have intensified in recent days, with an official offer expected to be sent to Lisbon soon. Neither Benfica nor Galatasaray has officially commented on the transfer speculation, nor has Franjo Ivanović himself.
