Cuautitlán Izcalli Leads State in Cargo Theft, Despite Reduction in Incidents

Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico, has recorded the highest number of cargo transport theft incidents in the region, with 118 cases reported between January and June 2026. This figure places it ahead of other municipalities like Ecatepec (114 cases), Tlalnepantla (94), Naucalpan (90), and Chalco (83), according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).

Despite leading in total incidents, Cuautitlán Izcalli has seen a significant reduction in cargo theft compared to the previous year. The number of reported cases dropped by 28.4%, from 165 in the first half of 2025 to 118 in the same period of 2026. This decrease is attributed, in part, to the recent installation of four "safe industrial corridors" equipped with advanced security features.

However, the nature of the thefts remains a serious concern. Of the 118 incidents in Cuautitlán Izcalli, a staggering 88.9% were classified as violent robberies. This high proportion of violent incidents makes the municipality the leader in violent cargo transport theft within the State of Mexico.

Mayor Luis Daniel Serrano Palacios highlighted the implementation of these safe corridors in the Cuamatla, Xhala, La Luz, and Cofradía industrial parks. These corridors feature night-vision cameras, alarms, emergency buttons, and artificial intelligence. The mayor also acknowledged the potential for complicity, stating, "Much of what has to do with cargo transport theft speaks of complicity between drivers and the people who commit the crimes." He also noted that some of the newly installed equipment had already been vandalized, requiring maintenance.
