Cuenca Juniors removes player over alleged match-fixing

Cuenca Juniors has immediately and permanently removed Jesús Preciado from the Ecuadorian second-division club over alleged match manipulation and offenses linked to sports betting.

The club said it conducted an internal investigation to protect transparency and fair play. It then subjected Preciado to a specialized polygraph assessment. According to the club, the technical report found “Indicated Deception (No Veracity)” in his answers about the alleged match-fixing and betting-related offenses.

Cuenca Juniors said its disciplinary commission acted under a zero-tolerance policy toward conduct contrary to sporting ethics. It forwarded the case file and the report, prepared by an expert accredited by the American Polygraph Association, to the Ecuadorian Football Federation, Liga Pro and the attorney general's office for possible legal action.

The decision follows an earlier disciplinary case. In October 2025, the Ecuadorian federation suspended Preciado for two years after linking him to an investigation into corruption and match-fixing while he played for Gualaceo. He was acquitted in November after the commission determined there was insufficient evidence, leaving him legally eligible to play before he joined Cuenca Juniors.
