Cult Clash Claims Three Lives in Nigeria's Osun State

A violent clash between suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye cults has resulted in the deaths of three individuals in the Imo Area of Ilesa, Osun State, Nigeria. The Osun State Police Command confirmed the fatalities, stating the clashes occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Monday.

Upon receiving a distress call, the police command, led by the Commissioner of Police for the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election, Samuel Etaifo, swiftly deployed operatives from the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) to the scene. The objective was to prevent further escalation of violence, apprehend the perpetrators, and restore order.

The Osun State Police Command wishes to inform members of the public that there was a reported cult-related clash between suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities in the Imo area of Ilesa, Osun State, at about 8:00 p.m.

The victims were identified as Idowu, Yinka, and Eja, though their identities are still being fully confirmed. Police recovered four expended cartridges and two mobile phones from the crime scene. Preliminary investigations have commenced to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify all individuals connected to the clashes.

Following the incident, three persons, identified as Idowu, Yinka and Eja, all yet to be properly identified, were reportedly shot dead.

CP Etaifo has directed the VCRU and other tactical teams to intensify patrols, surveillance, and intelligence-led operations in Ilesa and surrounding areas, particularly in known flashpoints, to preempt any potential reprisal attacks. The command issued a stern warning to rival cult groups and other criminal elements, cautioning them against exploiting the situation to incite further violence. The police emphasized that anyone involved in cult-related violence, unlawful possession of firearms, or other criminal activities will face the full extent of the law.

Residents of Ilesa were urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and to avoid spreading unverified information. They were also encouraged to promptly report any suspicious movements or activities to the police. The command assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and that further developments will be communicated.
