Customs and Tax Authorities Launch 'Kompas Raja Ampat' to Boost Tourism Economy

Customs and the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) have jointly launched a new initiative, 'Kompas Raja Ampat,' aimed at bolstering the tourism economy and strengthening state revenue in the renowned Raja Ampat region. This collaborative program, spearheaded by the Sorong Customs office and the Sorong Primary Tax Service Office (KPP Pratama Sorong), emphasizes communication, service, and supervision for local tourism businesses.

The program is an implementation of the Ministry of Finance's 'One Ministry' synergy, adopting an educational approach, optimal service delivery, and effective oversight. It stems from a shared goal to maximize the economic potential of Raja Ampat's world-class tourism sector, which is seen as strategically vital for economic growth and enhancing the state's revenue base.

Conducted over two days from July 16-17, 2026, 'Kompas Raja Ampat' includes socialization activities, assistance, dialogues with business operators, and integrated consultation services. The initiative seeks to improve business owners' understanding of their customs and tax rights and responsibilities, thereby cultivating a culture of sustainable compliance.

"Through the Kompas Raja Ampat Program, we want to ensure that the growth of the tourism sector goes hand in hand with increasing awareness and compliance among business actors. Thus, the developing economic activity can provide optimal contributions to community development and welfare."

Customs views its role as extending beyond mere oversight of goods traffic to acting as a trade facilitator and industrial assistant. This synergy with the Tax Office aims to provide more integrated government services, enhance coordination, facilitate information exchange, and map economic potential within the tourist area. The approach is expected to boost voluntary compliance and provide certainty for businesses.
