Czech opposition seeks to scrap part of fiscal responsibility law at Constitutional Court

Czech parliamentary opposition parties are set to submit a challenge to the Constitutional Court seeking the repeal of part of the fiscal responsibility law passed by the government of Andrej Babiš’s ANO movement.

The opposition announced the filing after the government majority overrode the president’s veto last week. Its challenge is expected to address both the procedure used to pass the law and the substance of the amendments.

The governing coalition says the changes are needed to make it possible to prepare a responsible and realistic budget. The opposition is asking the court to review the disputed section of the legislation.
