Czech President trades presidency for camera at Hungarian Grand Prix

Czech President Petr Pavel traded his official duties for a camera lens this weekend, attending the Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix near Budapest. Far from a typical head of state's engagement, Pavel was seen positioned trackside among accredited photographers, capturing the high-speed action of the race.

Pavel's presence at the Hungaroring was driven by his well-documented passion for sports photography and motorsport. The Czech leader, who assumed office in March 2023, arrived in Hungary on Saturday to photograph practice sessions and qualifying rounds before the main event on Sunday. He was welcomed by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

This is not the first time President Pavel has indulged his photographic hobby at major sporting events. He was present at the 24 Hours of Le Mans last month and has also captured moments from the Dakar Rally. His dedication to the craft is significant, with some of his photographs from the Dakar rally even being exhibited at the National Technical Museum in Prague, showcasing his talent beyond the political arena.
