D’Tigress arrive Berlin for FIBA World Cup

D’Tigress have arrived in Berlin after completing the final phase of their World Cup preparations in Zaragoza, Spain. Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team was received by Ambassador Ita Enang and officials of the Nigerian diplomatic mission in Germany.

The team held its last training camp in Zaragoza, where it played warm-up games against Mali and Puerto Rico. The camp followed an extensive buildup that also took the squad to the United States, China and Tenerife, Spain.

Nigeria will now complete its preparations in Berlin before the tournament begins on Friday. D’Tigress are in Group B with South Korea, Hungary and France. They will face South Korea on Friday, Hungary on Saturday and France on Monday.

The team enters the competition as the five-time defending African champion. Nigeria defeated Mali 78-64 in the final of the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. Rena Wakama’s side also made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics by becoming the first African basketball team to reach the quarter-finals. Its best World Cup finish came in 2018, when it reached the quarter-finals and placed eighth.
