Da Nang Issues Ultimatum to Eradicate 'Gold Bandit' Scourge, Punish Facilitators

Da Nang City authorities have taken a firm stance against illegal gold mining, issuing a stern directive to eradicate the illicit operations plaguing the Ho Nuoc area in Thạnh Bình commune. The protracted and large-scale nature of this illegal activity, which has long been a source of public frustration, involves the use of heavy machinery, deep excavation, and hazardous chemicals. These practices not only disrupt public order but also pose significant risks of landslides and severe environmental pollution, while also leading to the depletion of state mineral resources.

The urgency of the situation was underscored by a recent police raid on a known 'hotspot' for illegal gold mining. During the operation, authorities discovered multiple gold tunnels, hundreds of kilograms of ore, and sophisticatedly hidden mining equipment. The evidence pointed towards organized, large-scale operations, often conducted under the cover of darkness. The discovery of abandoned camps, some showing signs of hurried destruction, suggested a hasty retreat by the perpetrators.

In response, the Da Nang City People's Committee has mandated the City Police to lead a special investigation, aiming to dismantle all illegal mining sites. Crucially, the directive emphasizes the need to rigorously investigate and severely punish not only the masterminds and ringleaders but also any individuals or groups providing support or protection to these operations. A comprehensive report on the investigation's progress is expected by April 30. Furthermore, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has been tasked with assessing the environmental damage and proposing remediation measures. This decisive action reflects Da Nang's commitment to environmental protection and the rule of law, aiming to restore order and prevent further exploitation of natural resources.
