Da Nang repurposes surplus public properties for urban development

Da Nang City is prioritizing the efficient management of its public assets by addressing hundreds of surplus properties resulting from recent administrative mergers. The move aims to prevent the waste of public resources and transform these underutilized spaces into vital facilities that serve the community and drive urban development.

Following the consolidation of administrative units and the implementation of a two-tier local government model, Da Nang found itself with 828 surplus properties out of 3,805 managed public assets. An additional 83 properties were transferred from central government agencies. To combat the risk of deterioration, the City People's Committee has tasked the Department of Finance with overseeing the inventory and developing appropriate handling plans for each site.

About 250 properties will be repurposed to serve social welfare objectives such as public housing, schools, healthcare facilities, cultural institutions, parks, and public works. This is considered a priority direction to bring public assets back to directly serve people's lives.

The city plans to prioritize the conversion of approximately 250 properties for social welfare purposes, including public housing, schools, healthcare facilities, cultural centers, parks, and other public amenities. This approach ensures that public assets are directly utilized to enhance the quality of life for residents. The remaining 581 properties are slated for commercial exploitation through leasing or public auction, generating revenue for the municipal budget and optimizing asset efficiency.

Ho Ngoc Phuong, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Finance, highlighted that the city's strategy places citizen needs at the forefront. Properties suitable for immediate use will be managed by the Da Nang Center for Management and Exploitation of Housing and Land. The city's leadership emphasizes that essential sectors like education, healthcare, culture, sports, and community facilities will receive priority before other utilization methods are considered. This comprehensive plan seeks to revitalize underused public spaces and reinvest them into the city's growth and the well-being of its citizens.
