Da Nang: Solemn ceremony for 4 martyrs' remains found in Da Sap cave

After more than half a century, the remains of four unidentified martyrs, discovered in the Da Sap cave, have been laid to rest in their motherland. A solemn ceremony was held on July 31 in the Ha Nha commune cemetery in Da Nang city, where local authorities, military forces, and residents paid their respects.

The discovery and repatriation are part of a larger "500-day and night campaign to search for, collect, and identify martyrs with missing information." The search for these remains at Da Sap cave began on July 12. Through witness interviews, historical research, and field surveys, the Da Nang City Military Command mobilized forces to investigate suspected locations.

Initial findings on July 13 yielded the first five martyrs' remains, which were buried on July 14. Subsequent searches on July 20 and 22 uncovered three more sets of remains, bringing the total found at the site to nine. The recent burial of these four martyrs marks a significant step in accounting for fallen soldiers.

Colonel Nguyen Tan Tuan, Deputy Political Commissar of the Da Nang City Military Command, noted the challenging terrain of Da Sap cave, which was partially collapsed by bombs and difficult to access due to its narrow, dark, and potentially unstable interior. Despite these dangers, search teams meticulously excavated layers of soil and rock to recover the remains and any accompanying artifacts, following strict protocols for identification purposes.

Authorities have pledged to continue expanding the search area and investigating other suspected sites. The mission aims to bring all fallen heroes back to their comrades, hometowns, and families, honoring their sacrifice.
