Daewoo Engineering discusses nuclear and LNG projects with Vietnam

Daewoo Engineering Chairman Chung Won-ju met with Vietnam's Minister of Industry and Trade Le Man Hung in Seoul on August 26 to explore cooperation in energy projects, including nuclear power and liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals. The meeting, part of the Vietnamese delegation's visit to Korea for the Korea-Vietnam Industrial Joint Committee, highlighted Daewoo Engineering's long-standing presence and experience in Vietnam.

Daewoo Engineering has grown alongside Vietnam's economic development by undertaking various projects in Vietnam for the past 30 years. We aim not only to participate in projects but also to substantially contribute to the expansion of Vietnam's nuclear power and energy infrastructure through localization.

Chung emphasized the company's commitment to contributing to Vietnam's economic development through localization and by sharing its expertise in nuclear power construction. He noted Daewoo Engineering's experience as a lead contractor for the Dukovany new nuclear power plant project in the Czech Republic, which they plan to adapt for Vietnamese projects. This includes fostering local partnerships and enhancing the technical capabilities of Vietnamese companies.

The company intends to support local firms in developing their technical and quality management skills for nuclear power projects. Beyond nuclear energy, Daewoo Engineering is also exploring opportunities in LNG terminals and other energy infrastructure, aiming to expand its business scope in Vietnam. They plan to invest in local workforce training and establish supply chains to support these ventures.

We will actively support the improvement of local companies' technical and quality capabilities and competitiveness.

A Daewoo Engineering representative stated that the company's deep understanding of the Vietnamese market, gained over three decades, positions them well for these energy projects. They aim to collaborate with the Vietnamese government and businesses to contribute to the nation's stable energy supply and power infrastructure enhancement.
