Dagaaba-Frafra Friendly Games 2026 scheduled for September 5 in Ghana

The 2026 edition of the Dagaaba-Frafra Friendly Games is set to take place on September 5 at the El-wak Stadium in Ghana. This annual event is designed to foster the heritage of the Dagaaba and Frafra ethnic groups through a vibrant celebration of sports, culture, food, and peaceful coexistence.

This year's games will be held under the theme "Unity in Diversity: The Dagaaba-Frafra Model for Peaceful Co-existence." The organizers anticipate a significant turnout of dignitaries, including officials from the Presidency, the Speaker of Parliament Mr. Alban Bagbin, former Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, traditional leaders from northern Ghana, senior military personnel, justices, academics, and prominent sports figures.

Beyond the sporting competitions, the games will serve as a crucial platform for local entrepreneurs, food vendors, and cultural artisans. They will have the opportunity to showcase and sell their products, thereby promoting the rich cultural heritage of northern Ghana. A major highlight will be the food and beverage exhibition, featuring traditional northern dishes like tuozafi and tupaani, alongside various meats and local delicacies.

Traders and artisans will also market traditional clothing, notably the smock, and other culturally significant items. The organizers believe the economic opportunities generated will complement the games' broader objective of strengthening friendship, unity, and mutual respect among the two communities from Ghana's Upper West region. Traditional music and dance performances will further enrich the event, offering younger generations a chance to appreciate and preserve their cultural legacy. Football and basketball matches are scheduled, fostering a friendly and celebratory atmosphere. Tickets are priced at GH¢15 for adults and GH¢5 for children, with activities commencing at 8 am.
