Damaged Staircase Used by Students: Belgrade Residents Demand Repairs Before School Year

Residents of Belgrade's Čukarica municipality are calling for urgent repairs to a public staircase that has become a safety hazard. The staircase, which features approximately 180 to 200 steps and connects Čukarička Padina with Banovo Brdo, was reportedly fully reconstructed in 2022. However, its upper section, near the entrance from Banovo Brdo, has significantly deteriorated.

According to local citizens, loose paving stones in the damaged area pose a risk to pedestrians, particularly children, the elderly, and anyone who regularly uses this shortcut. The staircase is a vital passage for a large number of residents, including elementary school students who rely on it for their daily commute to school. Therefore, locals emphasize the importance of resolving the issue before the upcoming school year begins.

While the lower part of the staircase descending towards Lazarevački drum appears more stable, the initial section remains precarious. A viewer who contacted the N1 newsroom, and who preferred to remain anonymous, stated they had reached out to local authorities, including the municipal president and the inspection department, appealing for a swift resolution to ensure the safe use of the stairs.
