‘Dangerous colonial occupation’: Israel’s digital West Bank land register

A new Israeli digital land registry in the occupied West Bank is being condemned by Palestinian authorities as a "dangerous colonial occupation step" that assaults Palestinian rights. The Palestinian Land Authority and the Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission (CRRC) have urged Palestinians not to interact with any Israeli land registration platforms or procedures.

Israel reportedly launched the online "Land Registry and Settlement of Rights" platform this week to "update" property ownership in the West Bank. The CRRC, part of the Palestine Liberation Organization, stated the move signifies a shift from traditional control to "digital and administrative colonial engineering" aimed at establishing permanent legal realities in occupied territory.

Palestinian officials have called on the international community, the United Nations, and the International Criminal Court to intervene and hold Israel accountable for these "illegal procedures." They view the digital registry as part of a broader strategy, including a May 2025 Israeli Security Cabinet decision to "complete the legal and administrative annexation of the occupied territories." This follows a symbolic Israeli parliamentary measure in July 2025 calling for West Bank annexation, initially proposed by far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.

Since February 15, 2026, Israel has begun the permanent acquisition and registration of approximately 58 percent of Area C, the portion of the West Bank under full Israeli control.
