Danish military to replace uniforms due to quality issues

The Danish Defense, Home Guard, and Emergency Management Agency are set to receive new combat uniforms, replacing existing ones that have faced quality challenges. The Danish Defence Materiel and Procurement Agency (FMI) announced the upcoming issuance of these updated garments, designed to address deficiencies in the current Nordic Combat Uniform System (NCU).

Both Danish and Norwegian personnel have reported several quality problems with the lighter versions of the NCU. These issues include fabric fading, a frayed appearance, seams coming undone, and the uniforms wearing out faster than anticipated. The replacement initiative covers light and heavy combat uniforms, as well as combat shirts, intended for all branches of the Defense, Home Guard, and Emergency Management Agency.

Colonel Thomas Øgendahl Knudsen, head of the land-based military division at FMI, expressed satisfaction with the new framework agreement for the combat uniforms. He highlighted that the agreement not only ensures prompt distribution of high-quality new uniforms but also guarantees a better fit for both men and women, as the new uniforms will be available in distinct male and female models. Parts of the NCU delivery that are not affected by quality issues, such as underwear, mid-layers, winter clothing, and rainwear, will continue to be procured under the original agreement. The FMI expects the distribution of the new uniforms to commence in the first quarter of 2027, with the final prioritization and issuance plan to be determined by the Defence Command.
