DAP Must Assess Performance in Federal Government to Set Future Course, Says Chairman

The Democratic Action Party (DAP) needs to undertake a thorough evaluation of its achievements and weaknesses during its tenure in Malaysia's Federal Government over the past three and a half years. This assessment is vital for charting the party's course for the upcoming 18 months, according to DAP National Chairman Gobind Singh Deo.

After 60 years, we are now part of the government. The question is, do we want to continue moving forward to implement Malaysia's reforms and strengthen the country as a developed nation?

Speaking at the DAP National Convention in Putrajaya, Deo emphasized that the party's participation in the government necessitates that every leader and member share the responsibility of determining the best approach for the nation's benefit. He highlighted that after six decades, DAP now has the opportunity to advance its reform agenda and strengthen Malaysia as a developed nation.

This is our responsibility, every member has a different role because today's decision will determine our direction afterwards.

Deo stated that decisions regarding the party's future are not solely the responsibility of the top leadership but must be borne by all party members, as each individual plays a role in shaping DAP's destiny. The outcomes of the convention will serve as the foundation for the party's strategy moving forward. He stressed the importance of learning from recent state election results, which require careful consideration in defining the party's new direction.

We have just gone through several elections and we accept the decisions made by the people. However, those decisions demand that we look again at how we want to move forward.

Furthermore, Deo underscored that every political decision made by the party carries implications for the country. Therefore, the interests of the people and Malaysia's future must be the primary considerations. He called for continued open discussions to ensure that the views of party members translate into effective actions, particularly in the next 18 months, to make the best decisions for the nation.
