Darko Jorgić reaches semifinals in Malmö

Slovenia's top table tennis player, Darko Jorgić, has reached the semifinals of the WTT Europe Smash tournament in Malmö, Sweden. The 28-year-old Hrastnik native secured his spot by defeating Egypt's Omar Assar 4:2 in a hard-fought quarterfinal match.

Jorgić, currently ranked 15th in the world, had a strong start against the lower-ranked Egyptian, taking a 3:0 lead in sets. However, Assar mounted a comeback, winning the next two sets. Jorgić ultimately regained control, dominating the sixth set to clinch the victory after 45 minutes of play.

This achievement surpasses Jorgić's performance last year in Malmö, where he reached the quarterfinals but lost to France's Simon Gauzy. In the semifinals, Jorgić is set to play against either the third seed, Felix Lebrun of France, or the seventh seed, Hugo Calderano of Brazil. The semifinal match is scheduled for Sunday.
