Darko Jorgić reaches two finals in Skopje, sets new milestone

Slovenia's top table tennis player, Darko Jorgić, has reached a significant milestone at the Skopje tournament, qualifying for both the singles and doubles finals. This dual success marks a new high point in his career on the WTT circuit.

In the singles competition, Jorgić faced his long-time rival, Sweden's Anton Kallberg, the world's 34th-ranked player. The match was characteristically close, with Kallberg taking a 2-1 lead in sets. However, Jorgić, known for his strong endgame performance, rallied to win the fourth set 13-11 and secured the final set 11-7, improving his head-to-head record against Kallberg.

This victory propels Jorgić into his third WTT tournament final. He previously lost the 2022 final in Nova Gorica to Japan's Hiroto Shinozuki, who could be a potential opponent again if he wins his semifinal. Jorgić's previous WTT title came nearly two years ago when he defeated German Patrick Franziska in the final.

Alongside his singles success, Jorgić, partnered with Deni Kožul, has also advanced to the doubles final. The Slovenian pair defeated France's Flavien Cotona and Simon Gauzy 3-1 in the semifinals, surpassing their previous best performance at this stage of the tournament. They will face South Korea's Lim Yonghoon and Oh Jungsung in the doubles final.
