Data of all Ryde customers compromised in data breach

Electric scooter company Ryde has been targeted by a data breach, compromising the personal information of all its customers. The incident occurred on Sunday, August 2, when an external party copied data from customer accounts stored in Ryde's systems. The company has since blocked the perpetrator's access.

Ryde, known for its green scooters, has notified Norway's data protection authority and the police about the breach. The compromised data includes customer phone numbers, email addresses, birth dates, partial payment card numbers, and in some cases, names and addresses. Information regarding customers' payment history, including trips, purchases, and payments, was also accessed.

The company stated that it does not store full payment card numbers, so customers do not need to block their cards. However, Ryde warned that the perpetrators could use the stolen information for phishing attacks. They urged customers never to share bank login details or passwords, even if the contact person possesses significant personal information.

Ryde emphasized that it will never request passwords, payment card details, or security codes from its customers. The company also stated it does not send text messages or emails with links to log into Ryde services. Ryde operates in several Finnish cities, including Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Tampere, Turku, and Oulu.
