Datti Baba-Ahmed Says Obi, Atiku and Others Cannot Improve Nigeria

Datti Baba-Ahmed says Nigeria should not expect a better future from any of the politicians currently challenging President Bola Tinubu, including his former running mate, Peter Obi, and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.

Speaking on the MIC ON Podcast hosted by Seun Okinbaloye, Baba-Ahmed said none of them had the capacity to improve or change the country. He also revisited his disagreement with Obi over the former Anambra governor’s decision to join the African Democratic Congress.

Baba-Ahmed said he personally approached Obi at the Yar’Adua Centre before the move and warned him that the ADC did not suit his political ambitions. “This is the last time I’m coming to this place. I gave him my reasons. This is not a place for you,” he recalled telling Obi. Baba-Ahmed said Obi’s departure from the party four months later proved that his warning had been justified.

“Peter Obi moved out of his comfort zone against my advice. Beyond that point, I could no longer help him,” he said. Baba-Ahmed, who later left the Labour Party for the Peoples Redemption Party, also said he was uncomfortable with what he described as contradictions in Obi’s political positions.

His comments came as Atiku, the ADC’s presidential candidate for the next election, accused Tinubu of subsidising his friends and international oil companies while refusing to do the same for poor and struggling Nigerians. Baba-Ahmed said Tinubu should prepare to leave office, but argued that none of the politicians currently opposing him should take power.
