Daveigh Chase's father remembers "The Ring" actress on her 36th birthday

Actress Daveigh Chase, who voiced Lilo in Disney's "Lilo & Stitch" and portrayed Samara Morgan in "The Ring," was honored by her father, John Schwallier, on what would have been her 36th birthday. Schwallier marked the occasion by posting a childhood photograph of himself with Chase on Instagram, accompanied by a heartfelt message.

"I just want to wish her a happy birthday today and tell her that I think about her every day," Schwallier told Daily Mail. He revealed that he possesses few photographs of his daughter, explaining that her mother, Cathy, had kept him estranged from Chase for several years. This estrangement has made preserving memories particularly difficult for him.

Daveigh Chase passed away on June 16. Initial reports suggested her death was due to "severe" meningitis and blood infections that led to septicemia. However, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office later officially listed the cause of death as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and a disorder related to multiple substance use.

Her remains were cremated and given to her mother, Cathy Chase, who is reportedly seeking to be named administrator of Chase's estate, valued at $400,000. In her final years, Chase reportedly struggled with addiction issues and lived in a marginalized area of downtown Los Angeles. Her representative, John Ryan, stated that he and Chase's stepsister had been working with a private investigator for a year to locate her and offer assistance. Schwallier expressed that the official cause of death did not surprise him, given his daughter's struggles.
