De la Espriella reports first results against illegal armed groups

Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella announced significant results in the fight against illegal armed groups just two days into his term. His administration reported the deaths of six individuals associated with these organizations across the departments of Meta and Antioquia.

The primary operation, a joint effort by the Army and the Air Force in Mapiripán, Meta, led to the elimination of alias Ruso or Alemán. This individual was identified as a leader within the 28th Front of FARC dissidents, a group led by Néstor Gregorio Vera, also known as Iván Mordisco, who is the country's most wanted man.

In the same operation in Meta, three other members of this armed group were killed. President De la Espriella shared these details via his X account. A second operation in Anorí, Antioquia, conducted in coordination with the Seventh Division, Air Force, Police, and the Attorney General's Office, resulted in the deaths of two Clan del Golfo members during combat, one of whom was identified as a leader.

The operation allowed the seizure of six rifles and abundant war material. This criminal structure is the same that in 2024 murdered four Colombian soldiers who were carrying out operations in that region.
