Deadly ambush on the Paraná: Paraguayan boatman shot dead in Puerto Iguazú

Carlos Daniel Arrúa Adorno, a 23-year-old Paraguayan boatman, was shot dead after an apparent ambush on the Paraná River near Puerto Iguazú, Argentina.

Arrúa Adorno reportedly crossed the river on Tuesday at about 4 p.m. from the Tres Fronteras area of Presidente Franco toward Karumbé port, in Puerto Iguazú. He was traveling with his brother, Diego Armando Arrúa Adorno, and another unidentified man while transporting merchandise.

Preliminary information indicates that unknown attackers opened fire on the three men after they reached the Argentine shore. Carlos Daniel suffered serious gunshot wounds. His companions rushed him by boat to the Paraguayan side, and a private vehicle then took him to San Camilo clinic in Presidente Franco. Doctors confirmed that he had arrived without signs of life.

The young man had previously been the victim of a violent robbery at his home in Presidente Franco’s San Damián neighborhood. Last year, seven armed criminals broke into the property and restrained workers there. They stole 19 boxes of cigarettes, four new mobile phones, thermal cups, a laptop, Arabic perfumes and other merchandise belonging to third parties.
