DeeOne emerges BOOT Party candidate for Lagos Assembly seat

Nigerian comedian Aderombi Adedayo Martins, widely known as DeeOne, is venturing into politics as the 'Because Of Our Tomorrow' (BOOT) Party candidate for the Ibeju-Lekki Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly election. The former Big Brother Naija contestant announced his victory in the party's primaries, expressing his commitment to serving the people.

"I want to thank my party, BOOT party, for the confidence in voting for me to emerge the winner of the primaries election for Ibeju Lekki constituency 1," DeeOne stated in an Instagram post. "To the Ibeju Lekki constituency 1, come 2027 by the grace of God, I will be your worker and not your boss."

The BOOT party, officially recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in September 2019, has set ticket prices for aspiring candidates. Those seeking State House of Assembly seats were required to pay N100,000 for the Expression of Interest form and N250,000 for the 'Trust Before Ticket'. DeeOne joins other entertainers like Doris Ogala and Emeka Ike who are also seeking elective positions.

Adding to the political landscape, the BOOT party has declared its adoption of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its presidential candidate. This decision has sparked varied reactions among DeeOne's social media followers, highlighting a divided public opinion on the party's alignment.

DeeOne, who gained fame in the 2018 Big Brother Naija edition, has a history of public attention, including past controversies. He previously made headlines for allegations made on "The Honest Bunch" podcast and was also invited for a routine interview by the Nigeria Police Force's Force Intelligence Department, which he suggested might be linked to a video about President Tinubu's visit to Turkey.
