DEEP DIVE | Dead relatives and bright lights: What do people dream about before death?

Seeing dead relatives, bright lights, stairs and open doors are among the experiences most often reported by people in dreams or visions during their final days.

Italian researchers studied these end-of-life experiences by interviewing 239 workers who had cared for dying patients. The group included doctors, nurses, psychologists and hospice volunteers.

The participants shared what their patients had described before death, offering researchers accounts of the dreams and visions experienced at the end of life.
