Defence ministry hails Matawalle’s appointment to Tinubu campaign team

Nigeria's Ministry of Defence has lauded the appointment of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Presidential Campaign Council. Matawalle will serve as Deputy Director, Security and Intelligence I, a role the ministry believes reflects President Bola Tinubu's recognition of his extensive experience.

As Deputy Director, Security and intelligence 1, he (Matawalle) will be responsible for: Security Architecture for Campaign Activities thereby ensuring the safety of candidates, campaign officials, and supporters nationwide.

In a statement, the ministry's Chief Information Officer, Queeneth Iheoma-Hart, emphasized Matawalle's background in public service, security management, and political mobilization. As Deputy Director, he will oversee the security architecture for campaign activities, ensuring the safety of candidates, officials, and supporters nationwide. His responsibilities also include intelligence and risk assessment, working with security agencies to provide threat analysis and mitigation for campaign operations across all states.

Furthermore, Matawalle is tasked with coordinating inter-agency and stakeholder engagement, liaising with traditional rulers, community leaders, and youth and women groups to bolster the campaign's security framework. The ministry noted that his prior role as governor of Zamfara State and his current position as Minister of State for Defence showcase his "outstanding record."
