Osun Govt warns against post-election violence

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration has issued a stern warning against any group attempting to disrupt public peace following the recent governorship election. Reports indicate that some individuals and groups have been attacking members of the opposition in various towns across the state.

The government is particularly disturbed by reports of plans by some stakeholders to ignite fresh rounds of crisis across local government councils and motor parks across the state.

The State Government, through the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, emphasized the need for post-election reconciliation and healing. The government stated its intolerance for any acts of violence, stressing that Osun State requires peace for development, not political violence. It also noted immediate post-election disruptions in some areas and urged residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and rule-based interactions.

This plan, if true, should stop immediately in the interest of public peace. Osun needs peace for development, not political violence.

"The government is particularly disturbed by reports of plans by some stakeholders to ignite fresh rounds of crisis across local government councils and motor parks across the state," the statement read. The government warned that any push towards violence would be an affront to the Presidency and the Nigerian constitution. Security agencies were urged to enforce the rule of law, ensure the release of political detainees, and end perceived partisan policing, particularly concerning local government and motor park management.

We call on all political actors to speak and act peacefully. Osun should be in a period of healing and building. We must not allow a relapse into the pre-election era of killings and violence.
