Defend the Heritage of Independence

Malaysia’s borders did not emerge fully formed with the declaration of independence in 1957 or the formation of Malaysia in 1963. They reflect an earlier history of changing authority, negotiations and administrative decisions.

The histories of Hulu Perak and Reman are presented as examples of that process. Their past shows how territorial boundaries and administration developed before the modern Malaysian state was established.

The message is a call to defend the historical inheritance associated with independence, while recognizing that the country’s territorial story began long before the milestones that created modern Malaysia.
