Defender Stones joins Inter Milan on free transfer

England defender John Stones has completed a move to Italian champions Inter Milan, signing a two-year contract as a free agent. The 32-year-old defender concluded his decade-long tenure with Manchester City after his contract expired at the end of June.

Stones expressed that he had "lived all my dreams out" during his time at City, where he was instrumental in securing six Premier League titles, a Champions League trophy, two FA Cups, five League Cups, three Community Shields, the Club World Cup, and the Uefa Super Cup. Following his departure from Manchester City, Stones attracted interest from several European clubs, including Chelsea and Juventus.

Inter Milan, who were crowned Serie A champions for the 21st time last season, are set to begin their title defense against newly promoted Monza on Saturday, August 22. Stones, a former Barnsley defender, made 295 appearances for Manchester City, scoring 19 goals, after his £47.5 million transfer from Everton in 2016. He has also earned 93 caps for England, featuring in the squad that finished third at the World Cup.
