Defense minister: Russia spies when Sweden sends weapons to Ukraine

When Swedish Air Force Hercules aircraft take off from bases in Sweden, someone is watching and recording the details. Russian observers are also tracking heavy trucks as they carry military supplies along Sweden’s long roads toward Ukraine.

Sweden’s defense minister and intelligence service warn that Russia, as well as people paid by Moscow, is mapping the country’s most vital military activity. The warning comes as Russian hybrid attacks in Germany create fear in Sweden.

The concern fits into a wider Nordic struggle against suspected Russian espionage. Other reported cases include attempts to recruit Danish proxies online for sabotage and investigations into factory explosions and fires that have been described as possible signs of hybrid warfare.
