Defensive linemen Lemon, Hendrix return to Toronto Argonauts

The Toronto Argonauts have bolstered their defensive line with the return of American linemen Shawn Lemon and DeWayne Hendrix. Both players bring significant CFL experience to the team as they begin new stints with the Argonauts.

Shawn Lemon, a veteran defensive end, is embarking on his third tenure with the Argonauts. The six-foot-two, 242-pounder is a Grey Cup champion, having won with Toronto in 2017. Lemon's extensive CFL career includes stops with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Saskatchewan Roughriders, Edmonton Elks, Calgary Stampeders, Ottawa Redblacks, B.C. Lions, and Montreal Alouettes. He has amassed 270 tackles, 103 sacks, and 30 forced fumbles over 147 career regular-season games.

Lemon's return follows a period of suspension and reinstatement by the CFL. He had retired in April 2024 but was later suspended indefinitely for betting on league games. After coming out of retirement to play briefly in Montreal in 2024, he was reinstated by the CFL in July 2025. However, he was required to serve a two-game suspension for violating the league's drug policy upon signing with a new team.

DeWayne Hendrix also rejoins the Argonauts, where he previously played for three seasons from 2021 to 2023. The six-foot-four, 275-pound defensive lineman spent time with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and B.C. Lions in recent seasons. Last year in Vancouver, Hendrix recorded 21 tackles and four sacks. His CFL career totals include 103 tackles, 16 sacks, and two forced fumbles.
