Déjà Vu: Iran Is at It Again

Kuwait condemned a fresh wave of Iranian missile and drone attacks after a hostile drone struck a residential complex in the capital and set it ablaze. Firefighters brought the blaze under control, and no injuries were reported, although the incident caused material damage.

Kuwait’s Foreign Ministry called the attacks a grave breach of international law, the UN Charter and Security Council Resolution 2817. It said the strikes undermined diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and reaffirmed Kuwait’s right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, security and interests.

The Kuwait Fire Force said teams from the Al-Hilali and Al-Madina stations responded to the fire. The ministry also condemned an Iranian attack on the Saudi tanker Sidr as it sailed through the Strait of Hormuz. The incident killed two Filipino sailors, according to Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait warned that it threatened international maritime navigation and global energy supplies.

Saudi National Shipping Company, known as Bahri, said the tanker, IMO No. 9854715, was involved in the security incident at about 11:40 p.m. on Monday local time. The company offered condolences to the sailors’ families and said it was supporting them while coordinating with authorities and maritime-sector stakeholders.

Kuwait also condemned Iranian attacks targeting Bahrain and Jordan. Bahrain said the renewed missile and drone strikes against Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan posed a direct threat to civilians and regional stability. Saudi Arabia expressed solidarity with the three countries and called for an end to escalation, respect for sovereignty and international law, and a return to negotiations and peaceful solutions.
