Delcy Rodríguez and European Union commissioner meet to coordinate reconstruction

Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, held a high-level official meeting with European Union Commissioner for Preparedness, Management, and Equality, Hadja Lahbib, to coordinate reconstruction efforts following recent earthquakes.

The primary purpose of the meeting was to evaluate international humanitarian cooperation and to coordinate technical assistance from the European Union for the reconstruction phase and aid to those affected by the earthquakes that occurred on June 24. During the working session, Rodríguez formally expressed Venezuela's gratitude for the activation of the European Civil Protection Mechanism.

The meeting had as its fundamental purpose to evaluate international humanitarian cooperation and coordinate the technical accompaniment of the European Union for the reconstruction phase and attention to those affected after the earthquakes of last June 24.

This mechanism proved crucial, enabling the immediate deployment and integration of search and rescue brigades to the central coastal region. The bilateral dialogue also centered on developing a technical agenda for infrastructure rebuilding and strengthening risk management protocols for future contingencies.

Officials from the European Union delegation included the chargé d'affaires in Venezuela, Pierre-Henri Helleput; the commissioner's chief of staff, Jan Joog-Martens; and other cooperation directors. Venezuela's Vice Minister for Europe and North America, Oliver Blanco, also attended. To conclude the official agenda, European specialists and rescuers who deployed to disaster zones were awarded the "Hero of Venezuela" decoration, publicly recognizing their civil rescue efforts conducted in coordination with national security forces during the initial hours of the emergency.
