Delcy Rodríguez Appoints New Authorities for Electric Services and Corpoelec

Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, has announced significant leadership changes within the national electricity sector. The appointments aim to bolster the recovery and strengthening of the National Electric System (SEN), a critical infrastructure for the country.

Engineer José Luis Betancourt has been appointed as the new vice minister of Electric Services. Rodríguez stated that Betancourt's role will be crucial in reinforcing the team dedicated to this strategic national task. Previously, Betancourt served as the president of the National Electric Corporation (Corpoelec).

With the purpose of continuing in the recovery and strengthening of the National Electric System, I have appointed engineer José Luis Betancourt as vice minister of Electric Services, who assumes the responsibility of reinforcing the team in charge of driving this strategic task for the country.

Taking over Betancourt's former position, engineer Juan Crisóstomo Fernández has been named the new president of Corpoelec. Rodríguez highlighted Fernández's extensive experience, noting his 27-year career within Corpoelec and his deep knowledge of the electric industry. His expertise is expected to contribute significantly to the improvement and strengthening of this essential service for Venezuelans.

These personnel changes occur as the government implements an Energy Saving Plan. This initiative is a response to the anticipated increase in temperatures caused by the "Super Niño" climatic phenomenon. The plan focuses on energy efficiency measures, particularly targeting large consumers, and includes optimizing the use of air conditioning, escalators, and other high-consumption equipment. The government has engaged with private sector representatives to finalize the plan's implementation details.
