Delhi on High Alert for Independence Day with 25,000 Security Personnel and 1,000 CCTV Cameras

New Delhi is implementing extensive security measures ahead of Independence Day, with over 25,000 police and paramilitary personnel deployed across the capital. A senior police officer confirmed that a multi-layered security grid is operational, particularly around the Red Fort, the site of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's flag-unfurling ceremony and national address.

"We have elaborate security arrangements, keeping in mind the incidents witnessed in the capital last year," stated Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia. The security strategy incorporates multiple layers of checks and screening at entry points and around the Red Fort. A dedicated anti-terror response mechanism is also in place to address any potential threats or emergencies.

Surveillance is enhanced with more than 1,000 CCTV cameras positioned both inside and outside the Red Fort. These cameras are integrated with artificial intelligence-based video analytics systems, and live feeds are continuously monitored from a central control room. This advanced system is designed to help security personnel detect suspicious activities, crowd issues, and other law and order situations in real time, enabling immediate action from response teams.

"If a law and order situation emerges, we will respond immediately. Response teams are ready and deployed at strategic locations," Banthia assured. Security forces are actively managing the movement of people and vehicles near the Red Fort, conducting thorough checks to minimize inconvenience for attendees. Heightened surveillance is also maintained at vital installations, public places, markets, and transport hubs throughout the city. Security agencies are maintaining close coordination and sharing intelligence to ensure a swift and unified response to any emerging threats, supported by mock drills and coordination exercises.
