Delhi Police Fortifies Capital with Extra Barricades, Chains Ahead of Weekend Protests

Security in India's capital has been significantly tightened ahead of anticipated weekend protests. Delhi Police has erected extra layers of barricades, secured with heavy-duty chains and welding, at strategic points to prevent any breaches of security cordons.

The heightened security follows ongoing demonstrations by the Cockroach Janta Party, which is demanding reforms in the examination system and the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over an alleged NEET paper leak. Police anticipate a larger turnout of protesters throughout the weekend.

Multiple rows of iron barricades have been placed in sensitive areas, particularly around the Jantar Mantar protest site and other key locations in the New Delhi district. "Extra layers of barricading have been put in place at the vulnerable points, which have been chained together and welded so that they cannot be dismantled or shifted easily. Additional force will also be deployed to maintain law and order," a police officer stated.

Beyond physical barriers, surveillance across the city has been enhanced. Heavy police deployment is planned for the New Delhi, Central, and North Delhi districts, anticipating large gatherings or attempts to march towards restricted areas. Senior officers have instructed all district units to remain on high alert and maintain updated lists of individuals with criminal backgrounds who might exploit the protests. Facial recognition systems near the protest venue have reportedly identified over 2,500 individuals with criminal records entering the area recently, prompting discreet monitoring and verification.
