Dellien and Prado Set for US Open Qualifying Matches

Bolivian tennis players Hugo Dellien and Juan Carlos Prado are set to begin their campaigns in the qualifying rounds of the US Open, a major Grand Slam tournament. Both athletes are aiming to advance through the qualifiers to secure a place in the main draw.

Dellien, from Trinidad, will face Moez Echargui of Tunisia in his opening match. This marks Dellien's eighth appearance at the US Open, and he enters the contest as the favorite, holding a superior world ranking compared to his opponent. The match is the first professional encounter between the two players.

Meanwhile, Prado, from Santa Cruz, will make his debut at the US Open main draw qualifiers when he plays against Tomás Barrios of Chile. Although this is his first time competing in the senior US Open qualifiers, Prado has prior experience at the junior level in 2023. He has faced Barrios twice before, with Barrios winning both encounters in 2025. Despite Barrios's higher ranking, Prado is entering the match with confidence after a strong performance in the Challenger of Kingston, Jamaica, where he reached the quarterfinals.

Both Dellien and Prado have represented Bolivia in the other three Grand Slam tournaments held earlier in the year: the Australian Open, Roland Garros, and Wimbledon. The qualifying matches are scheduled to commence on Monday on the hard courts of the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
