Delta Assembly begins recess, Speaker urges constituency visits

The Delta State House of Assembly has adjourned plenary proceedings for its six-week annual recess. The decision was formally adopted during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Hon Emomotimi Guwor, following a motion moved by the House Leader, Mr Emeka Nwaobi, and seconded by Mr Pereotu Oloye, representing Burutu II Constituency.

Before declaring the recess, Speaker Guwor lauded the members for their commitment and hard work throughout the past legislative session. He encouraged them to utilize the break effectively by participating in scheduled training programs designed to enhance their legislative knowledge and improve overall performance. The Speaker emphasized the importance of continuous professional development for effective lawmaking.

I commend all of you for your hard work, commitment and dedication to the service of our people. I encourage you to take advantage of the forthcoming training to strengthen your legislative capacity and improve your performance.

Furthermore, Guwor advised the lawmakers to actively engage with their constituents during the recess. He urged them to visit their respective areas, interact with residents, assess their needs, and gather feedback on the implementation and impact of government policies and programs. Guwor stated that this direct engagement would provide valuable insights to inform the House's future legislative actions and policy decisions, ensuring they remain responsive to the concerns of the people.

The Speaker also extended his appreciation to the Assembly's management and staff, members of the media for their consistent coverage, and other stakeholders for their contributions to the passage of bills and motions aimed at enhancing the welfare of Deltans. The House of Assembly is expected to reconvene for plenary sessions on September 1, 2026.
