Delta CP orders tighter security in schools, correctional centres

In Delta State, Nigeria, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, has issued a directive for heightened security across the state. This order specifically targets schools, correctional centers, churches, and mosques, emphasizing the need for strengthened vigilance and protection in these critical areas. The directive was communicated during a meeting with senior police officials, including Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Heads of Departments.

Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers are tasked with identifying all schools, correctional centers, and places of worship within their respective jurisdictions. They are mandated to ensure regular security patrols and visits to these locations to guarantee maximum security. The Commissioner stressed that supervising officers would be held accountable for any professional misconduct by officers under their command, reinforcing the importance of adherence to operational guidelines.

Beyond direct policing, the directive encourages community engagement to foster security awareness and vigilance. Police officers are urged to collaborate with community leaders and other stakeholders. Commissioner Oyeniyi also expressed concern over the increasing rate of murder incidents in the state, calling on officers to sensitize residents on the importance of resolving disputes peacefully. Additionally, officers were reminded to maintain proper dress standards and display their name tags while on duty, with a warning of sanctions for non-compliance.
